After losing some very important people in my life, I needed to feel a connection to spirit to deal with the suffocating grief and loss. That although they were no longer existing physically in my world, I could still find some kind of connection or sign that they were there for me in a spirit world.
In my painting, ‘Between the Living and the Remembered’, the first figure is ghost-like, representing the memory of the person lost while the second is grounded in reality.
Holding hands; a connection unbroken, the need to still feel their presence.
The waratahs symbolise that beauty and growth can also exist alongside sadness and loss. Butterflies are also often associated with signs from the spirit world.
